Junior and Senior Infants loved dressing up today and parading through the village of Kilkishen. They enjoyed well deserving treats after the Bog Walk. The class showed off their costumes to Ms. Fawl’s 4th & 5th class students and they all enjoyed play time together on the Astro turf in the sunshine. Can you recognise the boys and girls in their spooky costumes? What a fun-filled spook-tastic day!!! The children in 4th and 5th Class really enjoyed all the Halloween celebrations today. They competed in a Kahoot Tráth na gCeist, they watched a movie while munching on treats, they did a Halloween parade through the village, they played games with the Junior and Senior Infants and they painted pumpkin masks. Have a look at all the fantastic photos below. Happy Halloween from all of us!!! Last week the children in 2nd&3rd Class and the children in 4th&5th Class got to enjoy a special visit from 'Heritage in Schools' specialist, Marina Levitina.
The children learned about Ireland's biodiversity and native Irish plants that are part of Ireland's natural heritage. They even got to listen to the MUSIC OF THE PLANTS through a biofeedback device, a magical experience that helps children connect with nature! This year, we have the biggest Green Schools Committee to date which reflects the keen interest the pupils in Kilkishen N.S. show in environmental issues. We now have 20 committee members who are ready to work hard on this year's theme of Biodiversity.
The Kilkishen girls football team recorded a great victory over Clonlara N.S. on Monday October 10 at Tulla G.A.A. pitch. They will take on Stonehall N.S. and Cratloe this coming Friday with a semi-final place at stake for the top two teams in the group. Best of luck to our girls and their coaches Ms. Eilís Whitney, Ms. Kelly MacLean and Ms. Michelle Fawl.
Aoibheann and Fia Donnellan brought in a fabulous book to show us called ‘Girls can Play Too’ after meeting professional golfer Leona Maguire at the Women’s Irish Open in Dromoland last month. This book showcases lots of Irish women involved in different sports. We also read about Irish soccer player Denise O’ Sullivan after Ireland’s Women’s Soccer team won their match against Scotland last week to qualify for the World Cup. Thank you girls for sharing this wonderful read which will inspire and encourage girls to play sports.
The boys of 4th, 5th and 6th enjoyed representing the school and their families in this year's Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football competition. At the start of the week, they faced the challenge of playing Clonlara in the nearby Tulla GAA field and they showed great battling qualities against tough opposition. This experience stood to them when they took part in a blitz today in Clonlara. They played games against Scariff, Killaloe, Parteen and Clonlara. Each of the players received plenty of game time and they rose to the challenge, improving with each game. The boys displayed plenty of skills and it was a pleasure to see the wonderful teamwork. On October 31 a fundraiser for Cahercalla Hospice takes place at Kilkishen Cultural Centre. All details are posted on the flyer attached. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you to Dennis and we look forward to more coaching with Dennis later this year.
