The children in 5th and 6th class enjoyed learning about the International Space Station and they worked in groups to discover more about the life and career of Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield. Later in the day, they joined a number of schools around the country by listening to a live interview with Commander Hadfield. This interview was part of a series entitled 'Inspiring Ireland, Inspiring Students'. It was very enjoyable to listen to this inspirational individual and to gain an insight into his extraordinary life. A newly elected Students Council has commenced meeting at Kilkishen N.S. The aim of the students council is to promote the interests of the school and the involvement of students in the affairs of the school, in co-operation with the board, parents and teachers. The Students Council will try to enhance communication between students, management, staff and parents. Each memeber of the Students Council will represent the views of the students on matters of general concern to them. Best of luck to the newly elected members Annie, Beibhinn, Jane, Alex, Megan and Jack.

We really appreciate all the time you give to us Mike and you are an essential part of our school community and a valued member of our Green Schools Committee. Well done to all and best of luck everyone to be chosen as next week's winners Gas Networks Ireland is delivering the 'Energize' science education programme in partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland and 4th and 5th Class are thrilled to be taking part. Olivia Rice from Zimmer has visited our classroom twice and she will be joining us for three more lessons in the coming weeks. Our first lesson was based around 'My Health, My Well-Being'. This week we were investigating the 'Mystery at Maggie's Manor'. We studied the police report and the witness statements. The children then used chromatography to compare ink samples taken from the suspects' pens with the sample taken from the evidence at the scene of the crime. Judging by the level of interest, excitement and enthusiasm among the children, I think we have some future detectives and forensic scientists in our midst! 4th and 5th Class celebrated International Women's Day today by learning about the importance of gender equality and by exploring how things have changed in Ireland for women over the years. They also choose a positive female role model in their own lives to speak, draw and write about. We are so grateful for all the wonderful women we are blessed to have in our lives and we wish to thank them for all that they do for us. |
