Is féile idirnáisiúnta Ghaeilge í Seachtain na Gaeilge, atá ar an gceiliúradh is mó dár dteanga agus dár gcultúr dúchais a bhíonn ar siúl in Éirinn agus in go leor tíortha eile gach bliain. To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, the children in 4th and 5th Class took part in a fun 'Selfie' competition. The children were challenged to find 'Gaeilge sa domhan timpeall orainn', Irish in the world around us and to take a picture of themselves with what they found. All the entries were unique and impressed me immensely. Thank you to all the boys and girls who put in such a wonderful effort to produce these excellent pictures. We are currently having a class vote. The winner will be announced in the classroom on Monday and will receive a tasty Easter Egg as a prize! Which one is your favourite? The children embraced the challenge of working in groups to design and create a parachute for their chosen Lego character. This involved a lot of planning, predicting, communicating and testing out different materials. The challenge was for the children to create a parachute design that will move to the ground as slowly as possible. Grúpa Oráiste's tin foil parachute design won this challenge! On Thursday, the children gave an oral presentation telling us about their favourite book for World Book Day. Please see the highlights below. 5th & 6th class have been busy carrying out science experiments and creating fantastic artwork at home over the past number of weeks. Have a look at some of their work below. Well done boys and girls! Over the last 24 years, World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading.
4th and 5th Class were delighted to celebrate this special day together remotely. We watched the author Derek Landy explain how to make characters feel real in his Academy Lesson. The children were then challenged to create their own unique characters and to write a character description. The children also brought along their favourite books and gave book reviews. Some of the pupils dressed up as their favourite book character which added a really fun element to the lesson. Niamh dressed up as Hermione from the Harry Potter series who she describes as 'smart, direct and confident.' She also spoke about her favourite book 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'. Olivia dressed up as Nikki J Maxwell from the Dork Diaries Skating Sensation. She even had the 'skates' as part of her costume and gave a brilliant review highly recommending the book. Sara dressed up as Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She put in an incredible effort, even having props such as a lollipop and candy canes. She remarked that she likes that justice prevails and quoted the line 'What goes up, must come down'. Thank you for your fabulous efforts girls. |
